This week a bunch of Melbourne artists are teaming up for a ‘Duets’ night, where they play each other’s songs and collaborate on a one-of-a-kind set!
First up is Imogen Cygler and Robbie Divine, then Oscar Lush and Georgia Spain, and finally Happy Axe and Hugo Van Buuren.

Imogen Cygler and Robbie Divine have been friends and collaborators since 2015. Earlier this year, they released a collaborative EP titled ‘Yoga’ which is a celebration of pop cliches and unexpected extremes. For ‘Duets’ they will present songs from the EP in addition to reinterpretations of work from their solo projects.

Omala is the new duo project form long-term collaborators Oscar Lush & Georgia Spain. Having supported one another on solo projects in the past, Omala was born from a desire to make music which focuses on collaboration and curiosity. What’s it sound like? They’re still working that out, as it’s changing all the time. But they’re mostly songs, often with lyrics and harmonies, and sometimes they play with a drum machine, maybe a little bass, a trumpet, or a synthesiser too. Imagine a long lost Yo La Tengo and Low collaboration from the mid-90s resurfacing, with guest appearances from Karen Dalton and Townes Van Zandt, and you might just have their idea of a good time.

Happy Axe is a violinist, vocalist and composer based in Melbourne. Her hypnotic ambient pop feels rooted in the earth, grounded in a deep love and empathy for natural environments. Happy Axe songs are delicately constructed from layers of swooning harmonies, lush strings and unusual rhythms, often telling stories of nature’s magical power. Her new single, Injuries is out now on Provenance. Hugo van Buuren is an alt-folk singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Warm, bold and vulnerable, his music captures a full spectrum the human experience – from the most intimate thoughts through to expansive exchanges with people and place.

Kickstart your week and catch some incredible live acts, congregate with fellow music lovers, and enjoy a little sanctuary.

Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.
