THIS SHOW IS STRICTLY 18+
In November 2020, Lewis Coleman (founding member of The Cactus Channel, Plastic, Frida) released his long-awaited Debut LP “Method of Places” via Ivy League Records.
Written and self-produced across five years, in five bedrooms, Method of Places is a record with a big kind of history in it, both sonically and lyrically. Ask Coleman and he’ll unassumingly tell you that for him each song is a micro-world containing multiple moments in time, each one swimming with memories and pieces of himself that span the last half-decade.
The fruits of Coleman’s labour are on brilliant display on Method of Places. It’s an album which effortlessly straddles the worlds of indie rock, electronica, jazz and soul, bristling with big ideas and artfully arranged songs that are both abstract and melodic, shifting and morphing around you, pulsing with a hushed intensity, but always grounded by a rhythm section so spartanly groovy that your head can’t help but nod along in assent.
Lewis will be joined by his wonderful full band of friends to realise ‘Method of Places’ live in its entirety at the Northcote Social Club on Saturday February 13th.
Joining Lewis will be one of his favourite local groups, Melbourne-via-Wollongong based trio Obscura Hail. Helmed by musician Sean Conran, who most recently released their EP “Siren” via Dot Dash, and physically as a combined “Siren” EP / “Zero” EP on 12″ vinyl.
Using Obscura Hail as a vessel, Conran is externalising memory for the sake of preservation. Over an untold number of late-night recording sessions in an evolving ad-hoc home studio, Conran has amassed a rich musical archive of alternating styles and an obsessive commitment to songwriting as a craft. The live trio lineup is impressively full, bold and beautiful.
